25th Annual Whitefish Winter Classic - Interview with Doug Betters
The Whitefish Winter Classic is an annual charity event that raises money to assist Flathead Valley families with pediatric medical related costs that are not covered by insurance. The Winter Classic weekend packs in events open to the public: some are free, just emphasizing kid-fun; others aim to raise money. All monies raised go to a non-profit organization, For the Children, Inc., to disperse funds to local families whose kids need assistance.  This year's event is March 11-14.  WhitefishRadio.com's Ross Strauser spoke with former NFL star and founder of the Whitefish Winter Classic, Doug Betters all the details that go into putting on this favorite Flathead Valley weekend.

    "Old Man Walking"...And Talking
"Old Man Walking," (more commonly known to most people in Whitefish as Richard Atkinson), set out on a mission September 29, 2009, for one last push to finish their fundraising efforts for the Performing Arts Center at the Whitefish Middle School.  He concluded his mission with a short ceremony at the O'Shaughnessy Center and a victory walk with fans and friends alike down the middle of Central Ave. in Whitefish on February 26, 2010.  It also just happened to be his 70th Birthday.  WhitefishRadio.com was there for the entire event and Ross Strauser sat down with Richard at the Buffalo Cafe for a wrap-up interview.  Thank you Richard and Carol Atkinson for all you do to support our community.

    Giving Back to Our Soldiers
There is no better time than the holidays to show appreciation and honor our  men and women in the armed forces, who sacrifice greatly on a daily basis to ensure our freedom.  Many organizations in Montana and around the country work tirelessly to make sure that our military men and women deployed in combat zones receive care packages from "home."  One such organization is Adopt A Troop in Columbia Falls, Montana.   This year, we at WhitefishRadio.com teamed up with Montana Coffee Traders to donate 50 bags of coffee to
Adopt a Troop.  We encourage everyone to get involved with a military organization in your area this holiday season and throughout the year.  Ross Strauser interviewed Co-Director of Adopt A Troop, Kathie VanDeraa.
